Our Focus

Our focus is to help keep construction safe by supporting and working with our members to identify suitable training for their workforce, then sourcing it locally at subsidised rates.

We also work with our Training Group colleagues around the country for national training course opportunities.

We help our members determine the training they may need, help them with their training plans and

help keep their training on track!

The Plymouth Construction Training Group work with most local training providers: colleges, training centres, specialist training companies and National Construction College to gain the most complete range of courses. We are also able to organise bespoke/in-house courses for our members.

We have connections to Federations and Specialist Federations and Associations including:

Working Well Together (WWT) | Health & Safety Executive (HSE) | Construction Excellence | South West Women in Construction | Building Plymouth | Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and many others.

We are proud of the relationship PCTG has with City College Plymouth and Plymouth University, the Sherford Training Centre and our three main CITB Approved Training Organisations, Greenlight Safety & Training, LTC Training Services and SSG Training & Consultancy.

We also work with CITB Non-Approved Training Organisations for more specific training.

CITB Grants & Funds

As one of our members we give you guidance and support you to bid for Skills and Training funds from the CITB.

CITB Skills & Training funding is Grant eligible training designed to support employers who provide day to day training for their workforce and contribute to the cost of training and qualifying your workforce in construction-related subjects for short courses and qualifications.

There are Apprenticeship grants available also to encourage businesses to grow their workforce. As members of PCTG, we can give guidance on Apprenticeships and you can benefit from our long relationship that we have with City College Plymouth and Plymouth University and the Sherford Training Centre.

CITB Non-Grant Eligible funding is for specific projects relating to careers and training such as providing direction and facilitation innovation and change. It is in place to help construction businesses grow and succeed.

Our relationship with the CITB will provide you with all the knowledge you need to bid for these various grants.

Meetings & Seminars

We invite all of our members to our AGM so we are transparent in what we do and in our achievements.

We are a 'Not-for-profit' organisation, so we discuss the charitable causes members' funds will support. It's important that our members have a say in the charities that we support.

We arrange member meetings quarterly to discuss local issues and share knowledge; information and ideas. Our committee members are dedicated to helping members with their extensive knowledge of the industry.

We offer updates on key changes from the CITB and HSE.

We provide mini seminars as part of our group meetings using experts in the field on topics our members feel would be of most benefit to them.

HSE Information

The HSE's primary function is to secure the health, safety and welfare of people at work and protect others from risks to health and safety from work activity.

The HSE do carry out spot checks on site, can visit to inspect a Health & Safety issue raised following a report from the general public. The HSE can on a visit - give advice; issue improvement or prohibition notices and have the power to prosecute.

Training is key to making sure your workforce know how to keep safe not only for themselves but for others they work with and the general public too.

Keep up-to-date with HSE information - it is vital.

As a PCTG member we help you do this.
